Selenium dietary supplement reduces cancer risk according to
Arizona scientists. The following first appeared in the January, 20 1997 issue of
"First", a woman's magazine:
"When scientists in Arizona gave one group of men and women 200
micrograms of selenium daily for seven years and another group "dummy" pills,
they made an astonishing discovery: the group who took the selenium supplement was 42
percent less likely to develop cancer than the group who took the placebo. Selenium is a
potent antioxidant, which binds with unstable molecules in our cells, preventing them
researchers believe, from damaging cells and thus potentially causing cancer."
Selenium is an essential trace mineral that is crucial for the
proper functioning of the heart muscle and there is evidence that it can help the body
fight breast cancer and prostate cancer. Dr. Britt Ahlrot-Westerlund in Sweden has also
used selenium to treat multiple sclerosis. She believes that multiple sclerosis is caused
by selenium deficiency, free radicals, and dental mercury amalgam poisoning. Dr. Joel
Wallach had this statement, "Will oxygen help multiple sclerosis? The answer is sure
it will help, but you have to do other things. Multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease,
and ALS apparently now are all the same. It just depends on where on the brain that the
damage occurs. If you get the damage in the basil cells of the brain, you get Parkinson's
disease. If you get the damage in the motor part of the brain, you get Multiple sclerosis.
If you get the damage in the brain stem, and the upper part of the spinal cord you get ALS
or Lou Gehrig's disease. And this damage appears to be caused by a mercury poisoning. You
better get rid of that mercury, and if you take in ionic selenium, it's almost a specific
antidote to "purge" the mercury from your system. Researchers found
that nutritional supplement selenium can also improve how well you think and feel though
they're not sure why. Scientists in Brussels found nearly an 80 percent improvement in
immune system functions in those taking selenium diet supplement daily. In Norfolk,
England the people are said to be amongst the longest lived people in their country and
scientists believe it is due to the high concentrations of selenium in their soil.
Selenium, as it turns out, is an excellent antioxidant which explains the improvement in
the immune system.
